What is facial trauma?
Facial trauma, also called maxillofacial trauma, is any physical trauma to the face, and includes dental trauma, facial lacerations, and fractures of the facial bones (jaws, cheekbones, forehead, the orbits of the eyes, and the nose). These patients are typically seen by an emergency room doctor, and then referred to an oral & maxillofacial surgeon. Dr. Martyna or Dr. Wong will review the referral and will repair the injury at Kelowna General Hospital or Kelowna Oral & Facial Surgery, depending on the type of injury. Subsequent healing follow up appointments are scheduled at Kelowna Oral & Facial Surgery.
